Who pays for hospice care?
Hospice care in Virginia is covered under the Medicare Hospice Benefit, most Medicaid plans, and many private insurance plans. These plans typically cover hospice services, including related medications, medical supplies, and equipment.
Who qualifies for hospice care in Virginia?
Hospice care is available for individuals with a life-limiting illness who have a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness runs its normal course and who have chosen to focus on comfort care rather than curative treatment.
What diagnoses are associated with hospice?
Hospice care supports patients with a wide range of serious illnesses, including heart disease, respiratory disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, cancer, liver or renal failure, neurological diseases, stroke, or coma.
What are the eligibility criteria?
